Dairy Industries Expo is set to take place in 29-30 October 2025 at the NAEC Stoneleigh. This exhibition meets the longstanding demand from industry professionals for a dedicated event that encompasses the entire dairy processing chain – from processor to plate.

Judith Bryans

Dairy UK

Former IDF president and current chief executive, Dr Judith Bryans of Dairy UK has long been involved in British and international dairy and science. She took over the running of the organisation in October 2013. Prior to that she was director of The Dairy Council, a position she held from 2006.

Judith was elected president of the International Dairy Federation in 2016 and served a four-year term in that role. After completing her term as IDF President, Judith was made an Honorary Member of the IDF and is also the chair of the IDF Task Force on the UN Food Systems and co-chair of the IDF Task Force on Women in Dairying.

Judith also served on the board of the Global Dairy Platform and as a governor of the Dairy Sustainability Framework from 2016 to 2020. At a European level, Judith is a member of the Board of the European Dairy Association (EDA). Judith has a PhD from King’s College London.

Mike Pinches, the Society of Dairy Technology president, is an experienced manager with a history of success and a proven record of both technical sales and business management. A leader with a high level of technical knowledge coupled with creative aptitude and determination to succeed. He has worked for many years in the ingredients supply industry and witnessed consistent and continuous improvements in a commercial focused career.

He notes, “Dairy is one of the most important agricultural sectors in this country but despite huge potential for future contributions to nutrition and prosperity, it faces challenges.”

Off duty, Mike holds the chair of a local Community Amateur Sports Club and is an active member of the Shropshire Club, which exists to raise money in support of Hope House Children’s Hospices, a centre of excellence for children’s palliative care.

Jaap de Jonge started his agency representing European manufacturers who supply equipment, ingredients and packaging materials to the dairy industry 25 years ago. Jaap works for a range of companies, with the main ones being ASTA Foodtech (dairy equipment) and Schmid Folien (cheese wrapping) from Germany and Facchinetti (fixed weight cutting) from Italy. All these companies have a proven track record in the UK and Ireland where Jaap is active. Jap is also an experienced cheese judge.

University of Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Lead of Rapisense

Magdalena Raykova is a Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde and Entrepreneurial Lead of Rapisense. Magdalena has recently achieved a PhD from the Civil and Environmental Engineering department specifically focused upon the development of the electrochemical biosensor for detection of contaminants in milk. Rapisense is a future product of her research currently on a commercialisation journey and implementation in dairy industry practices. Magdalena’s mission is driven by the desire to make a tangible impact on industry practices, ensuring that technological advancements translate into practical solutions for real-world challenges.

Sarah Flynn is a food science professional with deep expertise in dairy processing and technical sales. A University of Limerick graduate with First Class Honours, her award-winning research on milk protein hydrolysates launched a career spanning industry-led research with the Dairy Processing Technology Centre and successful commercial roles at SII/Ryder and CEM Microwave Technology. Known for combining scientific insight with sales strategy, Sarah has delivered significant market growth and operational value to food and dairy clients across Ireland.

Paddy joined WRAP as a Plastic Sector Specialist in April 2022, bringing a wealth of experience of packaging materials after 20 years within the FMCG food and dairy industries. Paddy currently works on all Targets within the UK Plastic Pact, focusing on difficult to recycle materials. His knowledge within these sectors plus projects will increase the overall recycling rate and recycled content within packaging, contributing towards the Plastic Pact Targets.

Andrew Palmer who is head of agriculture at Lantra will be chairing one of the panel discussions at this this year’s Dairy Expo event. Lantra are an awarding organisation who specialise in developing training and qualifications for the land-based sector, throughout the UK and Ireland.  Andrew has worked in the Agriculture sector all his life starting on his family farm, moving on to a progressive career in the Pork industry then to 10-year period at AHDB. Always having led the way on championing new talent and training needs, to following up with coaching and mentoring people in the industry. People are key to ensuring our industry develops and thrives, so together, we need to proactively talk about training, development and how this improves productivity.

The panellists represent key areas within the Agricultural industry: a prominent college leading the way in apprenticeships; a recruitment/ training company with strong links in the dairy industry; and completing the trio will be a leading dairy producer with a strong understanding of how continual training should be a key part of your business.

Karen Halton runs Halton Farms Ltd with her Husband Tom, based nr Congleton in Cheshire. Prior to marrying into farming Karen was a Director of a Legal Recruitment Consultancy in London and was responsible for setting up and overseeing the daily operation of the 3 Northern offices for 14 years. In 2009 she joined Tom at home on the farm and soon became in charge of calves and people. Karen believes people are the key to any successful business and looks for people to “make good” rather than looking for good people who are stuck in their ways. Along the way she has been crowned Dairy Industry Woman of the Year and most recently with Tom, Dairy Farmer of The Year always championing high health and welfare and in her own words “the cow and our people come first, as they are the future of our business”
